Selena

She was a performer, artist creator, performer and also broke boundaries in the music world. She was an Mexican American artist who was traditional yet modern. She brought both cultures together and brought Tejano music into mainstream culture. Her untimely death splintered her rise in popularity, and like many times when a bright deeply genial star dies far too young caused many to grieve all the untapped potential. As a result fans were inspired throughout time to dig and work harder to make sure her accomplishments are not forgotten. The tragic death by shooting of Tejano singer Selena spawned a reaction within the Latino community which can be likened to the death of Elvis Presley and John Lennon. Selena was a hugely loved Latino artist across North America. Her music transcended boundaries and brought joy to younger and more mature adults. Selena may have been hailed by certain people as a Latina Madonna, but she's still a fantastic example to follow. Selena's family values off stage as well as her involvement in AIDS awareness efforts provide a great example.
